:The question health care providers have asked for ages now is are there health issues related to snoring and now many know the answers are just what they suspected. Snoring is the bodies reaction to many health issues. Doctors are now finding out problems arise in snorers even if they have mild sleep apnea- when you stop breathing for a short time. Causes for snoring vary- being overweight and having to much fat around the neck can cause snoring as well as smoking, cigarettes can causes swelling, inflamation and irritation to your nostrils and throat, making you snore. There is also sedatives that can cause us to snore including alcohol. Allergies can make snoring more pronounced also. There are alot of remedies on the market now-a-days that just don’t work so before you try to self medicate or wear a silly strap around your head, consult your doctor. Make sure your sleeping partner goes with you if at all possible so they can answer the questions about your sleep patterns. He or she may start with some non surgical treatment including mouth pieces, nasal sprays, hormone replacement therapy and treatment for hypothyroidism. CPAP machines that force air into your mouth while you sleep. Then of course there is the surgical treatments if all else fails. Adnoids and tonsils are the first to come out. Or a rhinoplasty could be performed to correct a devieated septum. Either way snoring can lead to other diseases including heart disease, if you know someone who snores or you yourself snore it is a good idea to talk to your doctor. Sleap studies don’t take very long but can absoulutely let you know if theres a problem.
