:There are various reasons that cause people to snore. Some of these causes are out of the person’s control but all of the causes can be a sign of a health issue. Allergies, sinus infections, asthma and colds can cause snoring. People with enlarged tonsils or adenoids, narrow throats, or possibly other certain physical characteristics can cause snoring. Some people do not begin to snore until they get to be middle-aged or older, that is because as we age, our throats become narrower and we begin to lose muscle tone in our throats. Being out of shape or overweight, smoking or a history of smoking, alcohol or certain medications, and sleeping flat on your back, all can cause a person to snore. Not to mention, men are more likely to snore than women, because their air passages are narrower. There have been several health conditions that have been linked or worsen by snoring. One of those health issues is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea, is a condition in which a person will stop breathing for a second or more, several times a night. Not only can it be seriously dangerous to stop breathing, but also these people tend to wake up several times a night, which can lead to sleep deprivation. Sleep apnea, can also place a person at a higher risk of a heart attack or stroke, due to the lack of oxygen. Snoring often leads to sleep deprivation because the person normally wakes up several times a night, for several reasons.
