what is the cause of snoring and how it can be elleminate?

even just a few second of time i fall sleep i made this sound that can bother somebody around me

Snoring is caused by irregular airflow in your throat, normally because of blockage due to one of the following:
-throat weakness (causing your throat to close during sleep)
-Obstruction in the nasal passageway
-Fat around the throat and neck
-Mispositioned jaw

If you smoke this may be contributing to your snoring as it can block your airway passage thus making sounds due to obstructed air movement when sleeping. It is best to sleep on your side to help open up your airway passage aswell. There are many snoring treatments that are sold over the counter but most do not cure snoring completely. You may also try:

-Loosing weight and improve eating habits

-Anti snore pillows are specially made pillows that are shaped to help open up the airway in your throat and nose.

-Anti snore sprays

- Anti snoring mouth piece which works by moving the lower jaw forward during sleep to open up air passage ways.

-Avoid tranquilizers, sleeping pills etc. before bed

-Tilt the head of your bed up

It really all depends on what is causing your snoring. If none of these work there is always surgury but it is best to talk to your doctor about other alternatives first.

What are some treatments for sleep apnea?

My boyfriend has sleep apnea and snores. It has gotten progressively worse. I am not sure what to do. it seems when i elbow him, he stops temporarily but not long enough for me to fall alseep. It is often so back that it not only prevents me from sleeping but, once i fall asleep, it wakes me up again. HELP!

Sleep apnea should be diagonsed from a reputable sleep clinic. There may be another reason for his snoring such as weight etc.
The usual treatment is sleeping with a positive air flow machine (I think it is called Cpac. If he stops breathing his oxygen level goes down and it can be a very dangerous health condition. Have him see a Dr. that specializes in sleep problems.

my snoring solution

My friend is here from out of town and snoring like a monster?

I cant sleep, my tv is on, and I can still here him. If I throw something at him he stops but then starts back up again. I’m really irritated. Is there a solution?
He is in another room and my door is closed and its so loud. I bet my neighbors can hear him too.

I snore something awful, and am reminded of it on business trips when I share a room with someone. I have enough rapport with them that we kind of joke about it, but then I promise (and actually do) buy some Breathe Right strips and Breathe Right snore spray. Apparently, that seems to help.

Foam ear plugs are also good – especially the ones designed to significantly reduce noise. You kind of squeeze/roll them before inserting them, and they expand to block the sound.

My dog has been sleeping more?

my dog is 10 years old…a schnauzer/terrier mix. She weighs about 19 lbs. She has horrible dental issues most of her teeth besides the molars are loose..and just lost a canine tooth in a fight with another dog. She acts like a pup…very active but lately, the last few weeks to a month, she has been sleeping more and snoring louder. Is there anything to this??
Can’t afford a dental from the vet, they charge nearly 200 for blood work and cleaning…I’m a student and when I got her, I was working, now I am not…this is why she hasn’t had cleanings…

Dentists… what is the cheaper and/or more durable option?

I have a front tooth that is a crown. I guess there wasn’t a whole lot of natural tooth structure left to glue it to, but it was doing OK until I started having to wear a TAP appliance at night to stop my snoring. The torque of the appliance keeps working my crown loose, and I keep having to get it re-cemented about every 6 months… Anyway, the crown is loose again, so I decided to stop wearing the appliance altogether, and just sleep in separate rooms

So my question is this – IF (and it’a big “if”) the dentist tells me that she can’t recement the crown anymore…that it just won’t hold… I know I have two options: A three-tooth crown-bridge combo, OR a dental implant. Which is cheaper, and which is more durable?

And YES, of course I’ll ask my own dentist too, but I just want second opinions…

The TAP appliance needs to be adjusted to eliminate the excessive pressure placed on this crown. The continued crown removal and leaking while it’s becoming loose, is allowing bacteria to enter under the crown, exposing the nerve of this tooth to this bacteria. This will eventually cause this tooth to die. Then you will have two options, root canal therapy or extraction. The appliance should not be causing a crown to come off, if it’s seated to a sound clean tooth structure with proper cementation techniques being used.

If you need to have it removed a dental implant would be your best option, then a three unit bridge if the implant isn’t an option for you. But keep in mind that either of these will not withstand pressure from the appliance that your tooth is being subjected to right now. It’s better to keep what you have and fix the appliance or return it and have another made that will fit correctly.

Crowns usually have to be cut off the tooth using a high speed hand piece; they shouldn’t be able to be removed by the slight pressure an appliance exerts on them. So if this appliance is forcing the crown off, then either the appliance needs adjusting or the crown isn’t cemented properly onto a sound tooth structure.

Hope I’ve been of some help with this and that you’ll talk to your dentist about an adjustment on the appliance to save your tooth.

Additional information: If your crown is loose now, it’s allowing the bacteria to seep under the crown and reach the unprotected tooth as I stated above. This can lead to decay of this tooth causing it to be non-restorable. Perhaps you should ask your dentist to use different cement, a glass ionomer preferably. Also we always try to save a natural tooth, which is what you still have under the crown. The root and tooth are still there, just missing the enamel so the crown would fit over it. So, to answer your question, this is the way I would put it to a patient. We are going to try a different cement this time, and let’s take an impression of your mouth to send to the lab along with this appliance. This way they will have a replica of your teeth and mouth (this could have changed a little with all the recememts you’ve had done) which will aid them in making any necessary adjustment to the appliance. Now if she tells you the crown can’t be re-cemented again, ask why? There are “reasons” they can’t, not just because it’s “come off” so many times. That’s not a good reason, unless it’s affected the margins of the tooth and it no longer seats correctly. Then she would be recommending a new crown for the tooth. No, and I repeat NO dentist will want to do an extraction and replace it with a 3 unit bridge or an implant, just because the crown keeps coming off. There has to be a reason that the tooth is non-restorable. If you can’t get the answers you need from this dentist, I suggest you find someone with a little more experience with crown and bridge work and with your appliance. I’ve thought about your question and knew I had to add more that what I did yesterday for my answer. Sorry this is so long, I do get on a roll sometimes when it comes to something I know, and that’s dentistry. Good luck!

What can I get my boyfriend to get him to stop snoring? Any gadget or apparatus that actually worked for you?!?

my boyfriend gets upset when he wakes up and im gone and he finds me on the couch… its cuz he snores and its so loud I cant take it… ear plugs for me will not work as I have to hear my alarm for work…. is there anything you or someone you know has personally used that actually works and or DRAMATICALLY reduces the snoring… He said he would try anything for me but I really dont want him to have to wear something super uncomfortable… any advice? any links? thanks so much.

Tell him to go to the doctor and ask for a sleep study they will wire him up and make him sleep at the lab they will let him know how many times he stops breathing at night also let him know how much oxigen he is depriving his brain and the extra strain he is putting on his heart. Ask him is he tired in the morning and does he ever get up with a head ache? if he says yes he should get a study done

Is my newborn’s snoring normal?

My little man is 4 1/2 days old and has been snoring since he was born…but, it’s not coming from his nose…when he breathes with his mouth open, he makes a little snorting noice that seems to come from the back of his throat…i don’t want to stick the bulby thing down there, though…could it just be from some birth stuff still in his throat? can i safely wait until his two week appointment to tell the doctor about it? he seems to be fine with his breathing, otherwise…he doesn’t struggle, or anything…i’m probably just a worried first time mommy…

Call your pediatrician. If nothing is found, at least you will have some peace of mind.
