My child has autism and ADHD, and hearing loss as ear infections. Tonsillectomy? Adenoidectomy?
It took 3 sets of tubes in the ears before. He still gets the accumulation of fluid in the ears and has significant hearing loss because of it. Her (new) ENT wants to try a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, and a new set of tubes to correct this problem. However, he does not snore and does not meet any other criteria've read about to get a tonsillectomy. Has anyone or their children had a tonsillectomy? What is it painful? Is it useful to try to correct his hearing, or could it simply be a symptom of autism? I am very confused and scared and do not want my child to unnecessary surgery. Suggestions?
Apparent deafness is a symptom of autism. Our son seems to be deaf, and lost every word. We lost valuable time with an ENT who did not need surgery for ear tubes. I suggest you get a second opinion.
